The Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel has appointed a new chair and vice chair and has agreed arrangements for the interim period until the election of a Police and Crime Commissioner in August.
At a meeting today (10 June) the panel elected Swindon Borough Councillor Junab Ali as Chair and Wiltshire Councillor Ross Henning as Vice Chair.
The panel also discussed the temporary arrangements for the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) and policing governance. It was noted that a vacancy will arise on 12 July 2021 and the panel must appoint someone to be the acting Police and Crime Commissioner from the OPCC staff. It was agreed that Kieran Kilgallen, Chief Executive of the OPCC would take on that role from that date until the Police and Crime Commissioner elections on 19 August. Meanwhile, work continues as normal in the OPCC office.
More detail on the 19 August elections is available at Police and Crime Commissioner election.
Terence Herbert, Chief Executive of Wiltshire Council said:
Congratulations to the new Chair of the Wiltshire Police and Crime Panel, Cllr Junab Ali, and Vice Chair Cllr Ross Henning and to all members for taking on this important role. The OPCC will continue with business as usual until the new election on 19 August when a new Police and Crime Commissioner will be elected. In the meantime we are confident Kieran Kilgallen will ensure the OPCC continues to run effectively and smoothly during the interim period.
