The Wiltshire Police and Crime Commissioner & the Swindon Borough Council Elections take place tomorrow, Thursday 2 May and gives voters the opportunity to have their say on who has the responsibility for overseeing the work of Wiltshire Police and who runs Swindon Council in their Ward.
Here’s all the information you need to vote, including some recent important changes.
Voter ID
You will need to bring photo ID if you are voting in person. Accepted forms of photo ID include passports, photographic driving licences, biometric immigration documents and certain concessionary travel passes.
If you don’t have photo ID but have a voter authority certificate, please ensure you bring that with you to vote.
If you don’t have photo ID or a voter authority certificate, you will not be able to vote at a polling station.
Postal vote process
There have been some changes to the postal vote process.
If you haven’t already posted your postal vote pack back to us, then it may not reach us in time for 2 May. If you haven’t posted it, you can hand them in at County Hall reception in Trowbridge. Alternatively, on polling day you can hand postal votes in at the polling station. You will need to complete a form that will be provided to you on arrival.
There is now a limit on the number of postal vote packs that can be hand delivered. An elector can only submit their own and up to five others (six in total).
Please do not put postal votes into the post boxes at our offices at County Hall in Trowbridge, Bourne Hill in Salisbury or Monkton Park in Chippenham as they will be rejected.

Details of your polling station can be found on your poll card, which also contains information on Voter ID.
Polling day
You will be able to vote at your local polling station from 7am – 10pm.
You don’t need to bring your poll card to vote but it does help to speed up the process on arrival.
You will be asked for your name by polling station staff and for your photo ID or voter authority certificate. You will then be instructed on how to cast your vote.
Result of the election
Your votes will be verified and counted on Saturday 4 May.
When formally declared by the Police Area Returning Officer Terence Herbert, the result will be published on our social media accounts – @WiltsCouncil on X, Our Wiltshire on Facebook, and on our website.
